Corrective Surgery Co-management

If you are looking to be independent of glasses and contacts you may look to corrective surgery.  There are different types of corrective surgery available including LASIK, PRK, Phakic Intraocular lens implant, and more.

Are you a Candidate? Candidacy depends on the type of procedure, prescription, eye health, eye problems, age, and stability of your prescription. If you are interested, mention it to your doctor during your comprehensive exam.  If they agree that you are a good candidate they will suggest a doctor who will perform a consultation and confirm candidacy.

Before your procedure: You should discontinue wearing eye makeup and discontinue wearing contacts prior to the surgery.  Soft contact lenses should be discontinued for 2 weeks prior while rigid gas permeable lenses should be discontinued for 3 weeks prior.

After your procedure: You may feel some discomfort or irritation, however this should improve over the first few days following the procedure.  You may experience clear vision right away but it can take up to 6 months for some to experience full clarity.  24 - 48 hours after the procedure you should follow-up with the surgeon where you may be prescribed eye drops to help prevent infection, help with inflammation and or dryness.  You will then see your optometrist 1 week, 1 month and 3 months all from the date of the procedure.  You should maintain yearly comprehensive exams to ensure overall health of the eye.  Even though your vision is corrected, the overall health of the eye may continue to change, especially if you were nearsighted before the procedure.
