Comprehensive Exams

The purpose of a Comprehensive eye exam is to identify any vision related conditions and determine if corrective medical devices such as glasses and or contact lenses may help.

Common vision related conditions include

  • Myopia, also known as nearsightedness, where you can see close but have trouble seeing far away.
  • Hyperopia, also known as farsightedness, where you may see clearly at distance but have trouble seeing up close depending on the level of hyperopia.
  • Presbyopia, where the lens inside your eye is not as mobile and causes blurry vision up close. This typically occurs around the age of 40.
  • Astigmatism, where the curvature of the lens or cornea of your eye is not uniform and may cause blurry vision at distance or up close.

Comprehensive eye exams also check the overall health of your eyes by looking at both the front and back of the eye to assess for eye and systemic conditions.  Pupil dilation and or retinal photography is necessary to assess the back of the eye (retina).

If you are a new patient, please bring your previous glasses or contact lens Rx. It is important for the doctor to see how your vision has changed over time.
